Sophie Hansen epitomises the strength and character of the families who live and work in regional Australia. She is a published food writer, farmer, mother, baking enthusiast and lover of good stories about food and people and how they come together. She lives on a farm about 25 minutes out of Orange with her husband Tim and two children. They farm red deer and run a most successful business, Mandagery Creek Venison.
Sophie teaches social media and content marketing skills to farmers and country creatives through online courses, a podcast and one on one coaching sessions. In 2019 she produced her second cookbook, and in 2016 she was named RIRDC Rural Woman of the Year in recognition for her contribution towards rural and regional communities.
Sophie’s book, A Basket by the Door is a seasonal collection of 130 recipes to cook for family and friends who might be needing a bit of love, nourishment and cheering up. It is a celebration of how the gift of a homemade cake can calm and comfort like nothing else and how the making and sharing of nourishing foods is very best way to help someone feel loved, understood and valued. There are care packages for new mothers, grieving, heartbroken or poorly friends and family. And there are menus for joyful gatherings and seasonal celebrations.
The book makes a perfect gift, for you or someone you love, and serves as a constant reminder of the good life in regional Australia.
