Oh what a night! 🥂 We sure had fun celebrating Oh what a night! 🥂

We sure had fun celebrating F.O.O.D Week’s 30th Year and our region’s local produce and wine at the sbsfood – F.O.O.D’s 30th Anniversary Dinner last Monday.

Thank you to our local farms, orchards, brewers and wine makers for supplying your outstanding produce and to our chefs Richard Learmonth, Dom Aboud, Rubén López Mesa, Chris Tudor and Lily Hahn-Stivens for the way you celebrated the abundance and quality our region has to offer.

It was a delicious dinner and the perfect way to celebrate 30 years.

What a day!! A 4km stroll through some beautiful Orange vineyards. 8 courses of delicious local produce and cool climate wines to enjoy along the way. Amazing autumn weather. And a delightful crowd of people having an absolute ball!

What a beautiful afternoon it was yesterday, enjoyed by 300 lucky guests to celebrate 30 years of F.O.O.D Week and our region’s local produce and wine.
 
Thank you to our chefs Michael Manners, Simonne Hawke, Tony Worland, Josie Chapman and Leslie Russell for presenting the delicious menu.

Thank you to our producers who supplied some of the best our region has to offer, to our local wineries for a stellar wine list to match and to our local breweries for welcome drinks.

Thank you to thewhiteplace_events events for styling the event so beautifully and to our volunteers for the work you all put in to make this afternoon the very special event that it was.
 
And finally, a big thank you to the residents of Sampson Street for allowing us to host a long lunch in your street. It was a stunning backdrop indeed.

Our April recipe of the month is brought to you by Robbie Robinson themarketcat.⁠
⁠
Take advantage of mushroom season and warm yourself on these cooler autumn nights with this classic dish. ⁠
⁠
This dish can be accented with many varieties of mushrooms and Robbie recommends saffron milk caps or slippery jills/jacks, available to forage in the Canobolas State Forest during the autumn months.⁠
⁠
Ingredients⁠
⁠
3 cups of chicken stock or water if stock not available⁠
Pinch of saffron (if possible argyle_australian_saffron from Orange NSW)⁠
4 tablespoons butter⁠
1 tablespoons olive oil⁠
250g sliced saffron milk cap mushrooms⁠
1 cup Arborio rice⁠
Salt and freshly cracked pepper to taste⁠
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley⁠
110g freshly grated Parmesan cheese⁠
⁠
Method⁠
⁠
Place the chicken stock in a saucepan; add the saffron and bring the stock to boil. Remove from the heat.⁠
⁠
In a saucepan, melt the butter with the olive oil and sauté the saffron milk cap slices for 7-8 minutes.⁠
⁠
Add the rice; cook and stir until golden.⁠
⁠
Add the heated chicken stock 1 cup at a time, simmering and stirring occasionally until each cup is absorbed and the rice is creamy in texture.⁠
⁠
Add the salt and pepper. Sprinkle with chopped parsley.⁠
⁠
Serve immediately on a warmed dish with the cheese sprinkled on top.⁠
⁠
Serves 4. Enjoy!⁠
