The apple has significant historical importance to the Orange region as well as a broader place in many cultural narratives.
Through this new body of work, Tully Moore explores apples in various incarnations, continuing his interest in the meeting of fine art and the commercial arts.
Moore’s dual occupations as artist/lecturer and worker in a fruit and veg distributor in Orange inform his work. His skillful paintings extend on traditional still life painting, and include the technique of Trompe-l’œil, a French phrase meaning ‘to deceive the eye’ in which the painter creates the illusion of real objects or scenes on a two- dimensional surface.
Moore also borrows freely from the graphic styles that he finds on fruit and veg packaging at the distributors, pop imagery and graffiti to create mash ups that are both meticulous and playful.
