James and Gail Kendell are passional about making premium cider from true heritage Cyder Apple Varieties. The inspiration for Small Acres Cyder came from not being able to find a choice of premium ciders in Australia. Gail grew up in the UK and used to drinking traditional cider made from cider apples,and frustrated with not having a similar choice in Australia, set about making her own.

Orange was the logical location to set up, with its ideal climate, soil conditions and the already established and thriving food and wine industry. Small Acres Cyder is situated on the foothills of Mount Canobolas, on rich red basalt soil at an elevation of 892m.

They were the first producers of a locally grown, locally made cider in the Central West. Small Acres Cyder produces a range of ciders made with the fresh juice of cider apples and drawing on traditional methods of authentic cider production. Small Acres Cyder have achieved more than 100 industry awards to date.

In 2011 they introduced The Cat’s Pyjamas to their premium range. Why The Cat’s Pyjamas ? quirky – yes, unique – very. Only made in years when the fruit is at its absolute best, The Cat’s Pyjamas reflects the very best of what they do. Estate grown, 100% cider variety apples. They have created complexity through fermentation on solids, followed by malolactic fermentation, lees stirring and 24 months maturation. This is a Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling cider, hand riddled and hand disgorged, it is a labour of love.
